Terms of Service
Last updated: 29 July 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the PhD Roadmap Builder website and service (“Service”). The Service is operated by Jennifer Louisa Baufeldt (“we”, “us” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. About the Service
PhD Roadmap Builder generates personalised, milestone-by-milestone roadmaps for people exploring or planning a doctoral programme. The roadmaps are generated using artificial intelligence and are based on publicly available doctoral requirements, your inputs, and typical student experiences. They are intended as planning aids only and do not replace official university guidance, supervisor advice, or regulatory requirements.
2. Account and eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
3. Acceptable use
You may use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not:
- use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or deceptive activity;
- send spam, unsolicited messages, or harassing content;
- infringe intellectual property rights or other legal rights of others;
- interfere with the security, availability, or performance of the Service;
- use automated tools to scrape, probe, or abuse the Service;
- attempt to reverse-engineer, circumvent, or tamper with the Service;
- upload or generate content that is illegal, hateful, violent, sexually explicit, or otherwise harmful.
We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these rules.
4. AI-generated content
Roadmaps are generated by AI models. Outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, or not suitable for your specific situation. You are responsible for:
- reviewing and verifying any roadmap before relying on it;
- confirming formal deadlines, rules, and requirements with your university and supervisor;
- ensuring you have the right to provide any information you submit;
- how you use, share, or act on the generated content.
We may filter, refuse, or remove outputs that violate our acceptable use rules or that appear to be harmful, inaccurate, or abusive. Do not use the Service for regulated professional advice (legal, medical, financial, etc.) without appropriate human oversight.
5. Intellectual property
We retain all rights, title, and interest in the Service, including its software, design, branding, documentation, and underlying technology. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service for your personal doctoral planning during your active subscription or free-tier access.
You retain ownership of the information you submit. You grant us a limited licence to process that information solely to provide and improve the Service.
6. Payments, subscriptions and refunds
Paid plans are optional. The Service offers monthly and one-time (“Lifetime”) plans. Prices are shown on the Pricing page and may change from time to time.
Merchant of Record. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller, Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides customer service inquiries and handles returns, billing, tax, and invoicing. By purchasing a plan, you also agree to Paddle's Buyer Terms, which cover payment, billing, tax, cancellation, and refund mechanics in detail.
Refunds. We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee for paid plans. If you are not satisfied, you can request a refund within 30 days of your order date. Refunds are processed by Paddle. See our Refund Policy for details.
Cancellations. Monthly subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. After cancellation, you keep access until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. We do not provide partial refunds for unused days in a month unless required by law.
7. Termination and suspension
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you materially breach these Terms, fail to pay amounts due, create a security or fraud risk, or repeatedly or seriously violate our acceptable use rules. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately, and we may delete or restrict access to data associated with your account in accordance with our Privacy Notice.
8. Service availability and warranties
We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free performance. Maintenance, updates, and factors outside our control may cause interruptions. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, incidental, special, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages.
10. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Germany, unless mandatory local law requires otherwise.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after the changes become effective means you accept the revised Terms.
